A Jewelbox with no Wiggle Room
Old plumbing. Old fixtures. An interesting original Gothic Tudor design featuring arch-top windows, doors, (shower), and more arches (as far at the eye can see). This bathroom needs an overhaul, but not without sacrificing the building's defining themes. What do you do? Try this. Replace plumbing, replace fixtures, and cover the bathroom with a skin of tile work featuring multiple size layers and inlays. Keep the basic (arched) structure of the bathroom, salvaging window trim (to save cost on customizing new). Add insulation to the tops of exterior walls (for a tighter seal) and re-install old radiators to improve heating efficiency. Add a low-velocity ventilation system to promote conditioned air exchange through tighter walls. Enjoy your gorgeous new functional bathroom that stays true to the original.
